Thank God for tie College's clipping service! Otherwise you would have received only a lecture from me this month. The Tihalas household is pretty much a shambles with myself three weeks into a new job (though still at Bank of Boston), George off in Greece visiting his mother and father, Karen just down with the chicken pox, and Nick undoubtedly only days behind her. I have literally rewritten this column at the 11 th hour, having just scrapped one that would not have made you too proud of yourselves. As it is, the news will be somewhat dry, having all come from newspaper excerpts that definitely lack the personal touch. Anyone wishing to remedy that situation, please get off your doff!

Warren Hashagen was featured actually got the cover in the January issue of Inside PR as one of its 1991 All Stars. Warren is SVP finance and treasurer of The Gap retail chain, headquartered in San Bruno, Calif. Warren joined The Gap in 1982 and is credited with running a meritous investor relations program for which he was honored by Inside PR. More importantly, he made a great cover guy!

In early March Joe Powers was named regional manager for Westchester, Rockland, and Orange counties, responsible for small and middle-market corporate business, working out of Chemical Bank's White Plains area office. Joe was a vice president and group executive in Manufacturer's Hanover Trust Company's corporate banking sector prior to the Chemical-Manny merger. I've had plenty of opportunity to observe merger fallout in commercial banking, and I know this was no small feat. Nice going, Joe!

Val Armento has been awarded the national Girl Scout Thanks Badge by the San Francisco Bay Girl Scout Council. Val has worked with the Council for some 12 years, organizing camping, survival training, and "wider opportunity" activities intended to broaden the horizons of Girl Scouts in all age groups. Val only had to beat out about 9,000 adult volunteers for the award. Congratulations, Val!

Also from San Francisco comes the announcement that Sam Livermore has joined the law firm of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a partner. Sam will continue to practice in the areas of securities, project finance, merger and acquisition, international, and general business law. Sam was formerly chairman of the corporate practice group at Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges. In his spare time, Sam serves on the board of trustees of the Yosemite Foundation, the Marin Art and Garden Center, and Marin Country Day School and on the Board of Directors of the Terwillinger Nature Education Center.

Well, that's it for now. I know you're out there. Please write!
