When life gets too easy, too mellow, too sane, take a trip to the West Coast. There, everything is trendy and cool on the surface, but behind it all the Californians live on the edge. I took advantage of a super saver flight and was just having a wonderful time in L.A Then, 24 hours later, I was awakened by a 7.6 quake that reminded me that there are consequences to living in constantly perfect weather. The lifestyle is different: you barely see a coat and tie, but every car has its earthquake emergency pack. L.A. is a city of extremes and carries a mysterious aura of the unknown. I must admit, though, I was glad to get back to regular life in dear old Dixie.

Deborah Reamer, special student at Dartmouth, is doing well in L.A. She has two wonderful children, Lowell 5 and Seth 1-1/2. Her husband, Andrew Clare, is a partner with Loeb & Loeb, a major law firm in LA. Debbie has an M.A. in teaching and library science from Emory University and an M.B.A.from UCLA in 1982.

Tom Lord, who lives in Hanover, N.H., and coaches lacrosse at Hanover High, will now also coach football. Tom played football and lacrosse at Dartmouth before knee injuries sidelined him during his sophomore year. He was also an assistant lacrosse coach at Johns Hopkins and an assistant football coach at Taft Prep School for ten years. Tom will also combine his law background from the U. of Maryland and his education background to work as a self-employed consultant.

Congratulations to Jeffrey D.Jones, who has been named to head one of the units of Proctor & Gamble Paper Products Division.

Congratulations to Douglas Peabody in his new position as president and managing principal of Inco Venture Capital Management. Doug joined Inco in 1981 and has been senior vice president and principal of IVCM since 1985. IVCM has been a source of private equity capital and strategic direction to start up early-stage companies having potential for significant growth and investment returns. They provided the capital to publish the magazine Health, which has won two national magazine awards. Doug served as co-chairman of the publication prior to the acquisition. Doug and his wife, Annick Cooper "75 live in Manhattan on the Upper West Side with their two-year-old daughter Alexandra.

Dick Hetke '73 is alive and well in Birmingham, Mich., married to Holly, and working for Ameriteck Publishing Inc.
