It's April, and the Dartmouth Alumni Fund is in fall swing. Bob Pease, our ever-lovin' head agent, reminds us that '45's goal for 1993 is $95,000, a modest increase over our achievement last year. If you haven't already, send your check to Hanover. The College will be grateful, and Bob will love you for it. Don't forget your (former?) employer's match.

With Sam and Gertie Cutler, it's "supergolf." Under the aegis of Senior Golfers of America and Golfon, they play at such exotic places as Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, and Spyglass. Then on to Nevis (St. Kitts) for a week of H-W best-ball. Write him if you want info on either organization.

Back in September John Washburn went to the U.S. Open Tennis Tourney, courtesy of his son-in-law. The trip from Cranford, N.J., to Flushing was "hellish," but was more than compensated for by the terrific tennis amid the roar of take-offs from Laguardia. Big Wash has a new address: 30 Over Ridge Court, Apt. 2131, Baltimore, MD 21210. That's just three miles north of johns Hopkins U., where, as an alumnus of its grad school, he is registered to use the library and gymnasium facilities.

Via the grapevine: Andy Carstensen lives in Princeton, N.J., whence he gets to the Big Apple financial district once in a while on banking business.

From Bethesda, Md., Dick Hewlett advises that the University Press of Florida published his biography of Jessie Ball duPont, a philanthropist and wife of Alfred I. duPont. Dick is still active as chairman of the board and senior vice president of History Associates Inc., in Rockville, Md.

Seven of eight grandchildren are in central Ohio, where Elaine (Mrs. James M.) Andrew enjoys watching them prosper. An 11-year-old granddaughter is a cross-country runner who placed third and 11th in two national meets in December! Grandma enjoyed reports of the '45 minis and is considering being there in 1993. (That's October 8-9, Elaine.) If not, 1995 for sure.

After serving 15 years as an Oregon Court of Appeals judge, John Buttler retired December 31. The Daily Journal of Commerce wrote, "At least three of his opinions resulted in legislation conforming the law to what he had said it ought to be or to what he had said that it was, but the Supreme Court had disagreed. Many of his opinions demonstrate his concern for the individual and privacy rights." Right on, John!

While missing us at Dartmouth, Gina(Strasenburgh) Pacala reports her new life is wonderful and busy. Lots of traveling and interesting people. They were expecting everyone for Christmas, so it was a merry one.

On February 17 The Crow's Nest restaurant in Venice, Fla., was the scene of a '45 luncheon get-together organized and promoted by Harry and Peg Hampton. Revelers were Johnny Brandt, Bill McKenzie, Carol andStan Quackenbush, Joan and MooseRowan, Alice and Howie Sawyer, BobStumm, and Ashley Van Duzer. Great conversation and good food made for a most enjoyable time.

Thought for the month: "Don't criticize people who talk to themselves. Sometimes it's the only intelligent conversation they have that day."
