A reminder: it's class-dues season. By now you should already have received your first bill, and blessed are those who paid it for they shall have saved our treasury the price of postage on a second notice. For the rest, that second notice should be arriving about the time you're reading this.

In behalf of hard-working treasurer LouYoung, and in behalf of your subscription to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and the memorial book gifts, please get up the cash. And in behalf of me and all your friends out there, please take advantage of that clean white paper on the back of the bill and drop a note about your doings. Lou will pass it on to me arid I'll pass it on to your friends. It's a painless way to keep the news circulating.

Several months ago a change-of-address list in this column revealed that the Alden Boyds had moved into the Washington area, and the other night I finally got on the phone to check up. Alden was sorrowing over the fact that he had been unable to take his saxaphone to Hanover last June for the Barbary Coast revival but was otherwise fine. He is still a mortgageloan specialist, commercial properties, for Massachusetts Mutual - the move here was a transfer from Detroit. He's currently working on a hotel/shopping development at the edge of Georgetown.

The other news from Metropolitan Washington isn't so good. Bill Jamison, the long, lean Virginian in the Cabin and Trail jacket, died this past summer. Details are in this month's obituary pages.

There are some new address changes to report.

John Hands has deserted Montclair, N.J., after all these years and is henceforth to be found at 2523 Birchwood Dr. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30305. Whether this represents retirement, a new job, or a transfer, time will perhaps tell. See the opening paragraph above, John.

Doug Atwood has moved again, which should be no particular surprise. Doug has been bouncing around the world for CARE these 15 years past. Most recently, by my records, he was in Bogota, Colombia. Now you can reach him at CARE-MEDICO, P.O. Box 148, Kabul, Afghanistan.

Bob Campbell - Robert W., that is, not Robert M. - has just switched from one address in Tucson to another. The new one: 3748 East 4th St., Tucson, Ariz. 85716.

The class Alumni Fund results have already been listed, but there was one 1941 gift to the College which I don't believe has been reported - but ought to be. Last spring Dartmouth received a bequest of $25,000 from the estate of Hank Frechette, who died in 1976. It was added to the Henry M. Frechette 1941 Memorial Fund, previously established by a donation from Priscilla.

Also dating back to last spring is a note from Jack Ripley explaining why he wouldn't be able to make it to reunion. He was scheduled to be teaching in Germany this summer. Since what he mainly teaches are mainly modern languages, I'll claim that's what he was doing until successfully contradicted.

Even earlier than that is the date on a letter from Frank Watters. He's at the medical school of the Newington, Conn., Veterans Administration Hospital, both teaching and practicing. "The job is primarily teaching at the postgraduate level," he writes, "but I must admit I've reached the point at which I enjoy my opportunity for direct patient care much more than teaching."

Lastly, a couple postscripts to the fine, full 35th reunion report that Steve provided in the September issue: The official attendance list missed one classmate, a late arrival. Dick Whittier, who hadn't expected to come, changed his mind and drove up from Northampton on the spur of the moment. And while Jupe Lewis was indeed present, as recorded, the truth is that reunion was only part of the reason. The main event for the Lewis family that weekend was the graduation of daughter Nicole '77, a delightful young lady whose first taste of aluitinahood was being swept into an evening class-tent session with her pa's old classmates. And you know what that bunch is like!
