...Nicky Crow Caramandi nearly shot mob underboss Chuckie Merlino's son, Joey, while they were testing out the silencers on two potential murder weapons in the cellar of a South Philadelphia row house.
"The Crow was, he was playing with it [the gun] and pointing it all over the place," Tommy Del said. "And I said to him, I asked him, 'What are you doing?' And he said, 'Don't worry, it's not loaded.' And he turned around and said 'Look.'"
With that, DelGiorno said, Caramandi pointed the gun at some iron grating and pulled the trigger.
"And when he shot it, could you tell whether it was loaded?" DelGiorno was asked.
"Oh, it was loaded," he said.
"And did that cause you any concern?"
"Sure. I got scared. I said, "Jesus Christ. You shoot this kid, how am I gonna explain it to his father? He ain't gonna believe it is an accident.'"
