A chance visit to Hanover in 1946, when Hanny was but 11, started his love affair with Dartmouth, and it has run a steady course ever since. That he was smitten early on was happy for him and splendid for us. He has always taken a front seat in College affairs.

Not much sitting around for him, though. He was an active student; he served two years as a lieutenant in the marines; he formed the Ivy League Sandwichman Corporation to finance his way through University of Michigan business school; and he's had a couple of rewarding careers in consulting and marketing in both Detroit and Des Moines.

The move to Des Moines in 1965 was in itself highly signifi a quieter environment for his children, and one where he would be more accessible to them. Family and friends and youngsters have always been of primary importance to Hanny, and he is especially proud of his six years as director of the Des Moines Boy's Club. Notable, too, beyond the founding of his own highly successful computer-paper arid business- forms company, was his role in the development of the Golden Circle Development Company, which provided money for smallbusiness start-ups. He has also held directorships with lowa State University, the Des Moines' Symphony, the Rotary Club, and the Mercy Hospital. He describes Des Moines as a place of level heads and great hearts, and he himself is the epitome of both.

All the while Hanny has kept one foot in Hanover. An Alumni Councilor, he has been class treasurer, head and class agent, minireunion chair, a member of the 35th Reunion and the reunion giving committees, president of the Detroit club, and secretary and president of the lowa club. With all this activity, no wonder his soft September sunsets are so undying.

With thanks, admiration, and appreciation, Dartmouth is pleased to present Hanny Mason this Alumni Award.
