APRIL 1994 Jon Einsidler,

In news around tie nation, Michael Moore was named solicitor general by the Tennessee attorney general (does that mean he was the best at soliciting in the state?). He will be responsible for supervising the appellate and opinion work of the attorney general's office. Michael was with the U.S. Department of Justice early in his career, then served as director of law for Nashville's metropolitan government. Until this appointment, he had been a partner with Waller, Landsden Dortch and Davis.

Joel Hyatt continues his senatorial pursuit. In addition to a recent article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Business Week carried an article in its November 29 edition which profiled Joel and the race, which is expected to be hotly contested.

Prominent Atlanta attorney Jesse Spikes was recently named to the Alumni Council as one of the at-large members.

In an irregular feature of this column (which I hope will be more regular as he settles into the Pacific Northwest), our eminent Left Coast guest columnist and diarist, Bill Price, has provided the following:

"Twenty-five years ago we were wrapping up our freshman year, a year of new sights, sounds, and friends. Beginning with my 'guest column' for Jon and continuing until our 25 th Reunion, I'll dig into my diary to pull out reminders of those good old days. Be sure to send in your reminiscences to Jon too!

April 3, 1969: spring term books cost a whopping $33.86.

April 8: spring fraternity visitation (for three more nights, too).

April 17: Joel Zylberberg elected class prez; Bill Pollock secretary/treasurer.

April 19: First SDS sit-in at Parkhurst; again April 29 after ROTC referendum where plurality of students vote to phase out ROTC. Then May 6: "Takeover" during fraternity Hums across the Green, with new SBD (Students Behind Dartmouth) protesting the protesters ... leading to 56 arrests at 3:00 in the

morning.

April 23: sophomore-year room lottery results in.

May 4: careers in the making... Alike Sack applies for Jersey City internship.

May 9-11: Green Key weekend featuring Laura Nyro and Richie Havens concert, many "parietals" (remember that?!) violations, and the chariot race won by Phoenix

May 21: Peter Broberg strikes out 19 in a 12—0 no-hitter.

"On to the West Coast news. My family finally moved into our new home in Bellevue, just east of Seattle, Wash. What a process. Tougher than bringing advanced voiceresponse software into the MCI network (my job the rest of the time). I laid it out in seven stages: (1) prepare the old house for sale so that we don't even recognize it any more; (2) "selling" the house getting someone to sign the contract; (3) closing always full of last-minute surprises; (4) moving to the new town, and finding temporary housing which is always too tight; (5) "buying" the new place, which takes forever since the final product didn't resemble our initial specs; (6) moving day ... and discovering those chipped mirrors; and, to wrap it up, (7) finally squeezing our cars into the garage. Whew. We're enjoying the Great Northwest after 18 fun years in California. Lots of accessible recreation, good public schools (girls aged five and one and a half), clean air, and four seasons again.

"Thurm Lowans makes the grade: call him 'Court Commissioner' these days, or else you'll end up pinned to the roof of your favorite dorm or fraternity hallway. He rules on all Kitsap County, Wash., cases except for felony trials."

Look for May/June 1969 factoids next time. One year down, only three to go.
