Vice president Jeff Davis and his committee members, Sam Cunningham, JackManchester, and class president Worthington, e.O., have received Recommendations of how our class should use about $10,000 of its money to benefit the College. These suggestions have come from Wes Beattie, Mel Katz, Hank P. Smith,Walt Snead, Ken Weeman, and your secretary. The College has also been asked to submit its "wish list" to the committee. Jeff would like more suggestions from classmates before the final report of the committee is given. Please send them to Jeff at 3 Stonybrook Road, Plymouth, NH 03264.

Art Hull pointed out an error in my February column in which I said he was given a Doctor of Laws degree by Long Island University. It was, instead, Doctor of Humane Letters, an honorary degree awarded for his many services to the university.

Art also told me that Bill Hitchcock last year was named trustee emeritus of Tabor Academy in recognition of his long service to Bill and Art's alma mater. Bill was a trustee of the academy and served for a time as its board chairman.

As a bit of late news, I have just learned that Art, as president of Hull Chevrolet Olds of Southampton, N.Y., was one of only 67 new car dealers across the country named by Time magazine to receive the 1986 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award. This was presented at a New Orleans convention attended by more than 5,000 people involved in the automotive industry.

Dave Flynn sent me a clipping from the Reader's Digest house organ which said that Kent Rhodes had "stepped down" as chairman of the Reader's Digest Foundation after 15 years in that position. Commenting on Kent's years of service, the present chairman of the board said, "Kent is unique in the kind of contribution he has made to the company. Over more than 40 years, he has been an innovator, a leader, and a very special human being. His career and dedication have been truly extraordinary."

Our president, Old Page, has visited the southlands and, in the course of his travels, had phone conversations with Bob Norton and Dave Coolidge, both residents of Pinehurst, N.C. Bob is active in choral groups, remembering his old glee club days. He says his voice hasn't changed yet. Didn't say from what or when.

Dave, like so many of us, is unhappy about all the adverse publicity Dartmouth has been getting in the news. I sincerely hope and expect that this, too, shall pass. Dartmouth has had quite a few troubles since 1769, but, whether due to presidents, trustees, faculty, alumni, or students, or, indeed, all of them together, it has become a great college and will continue.
