In 1979, as the Cable News Network's founding president and chief executive, Reese Schonfeld '53 developed the concept of a channel devoted to round-the-clock video news. Other Schonfeld innovations: the first satellite-delivered television news service (in 1975), the first 24-hour local all-news service (Long Island, 1981), and the Television Food Network (1993).
