The curtain fell on one of the worst basketball seasons since 1918. Only a two- point victory against Amherst and the upset "miracle" win over Holy Cross were in the win column for the Green.
The final five games were played with only eight men in uniform, injuries and illness having cut down the Dartmouth squad. On their last road trip of the season the Indians were trounced by Columbia 82-67 and Cornell 96-62. Yale, runnerup to Princeton for the Ivy title, turned back the Green at Hanover 75-58 and then Brown came to town to do battle to see who wouldn't occupy the Ivy League cellar. The Bruins had only one victory in league play and that was against the Green at Providence. Too many mistakes and too many fouls, however, hurt the Indians and Brown won again 83-74. In the final game of the year Harvard was on top 95-76.
Junior Davis Blaine ended the season with the best scoring average, 13.4 and a total of 335 points. Sophomore Chris Kinum at 11.9 and Vic Mair, a junior, at 10.3 were the only other Indians with double figure averages.
Looking ahead to next season we find a much brighter outlook. Captain Fran Hanlon, who was in and out of the line- up because of injuries, will be the only loss because of graduation. With four of five players from this year's squad improving and the nucleus of this year's freshman team moving up, next year should see more victories. The '67s finished their season with a 14-3 mark. Their one loss since our last report came at the hands of St. Michael's. It would not be surprising if two or three of the freshmen broke into the starting lineup come next December.
