Beaver Shriver is alive, well, and prospering in the remote town of Hot Springs, Va., buried in Bath County in the Allegheny Mountains in the North-west corner of Virginia. Beaver and his wife, Dede own and operate two stores which are located on the property of the fabulous resort hotel The Homestead". The bulk of Beaver's time is spent operating the Outpost, which is a store featuring outdoor equipment, fish-and-game supplies, and outdoor apparel. Beaver also spends time providing fly-fishing tours of the local fishing holes for visitors to The Homestead. Beaver's other business entity is Bear Paw Books, which sells a wide variety of books with a particular emphasis on children's books. Beaver's wife, Dede, spends her time conducting horseback rides for guests at The Homestead. Aside from his professional endeavors. Beaver is one of the best-known individuals in Bath County, which covers approximately 500 square miles and is home to about 1,600 people. When he is not busy with one of his businesses, Beaver is also a volunteer fireman, ambulance attendant, and the lead diver on the Bath County dive team, which unfortunately is charged with the responsibility of recovering, and hopefully resuscitating, drowning victims in area lakes. One local store owner opined to me that Bath County could not survive without Beaver Shriver. Beaver and Dede have also been featured interviewees in Southern Living Magazine and Diving Magazine. If you are at The Homestead I wholeheartedly encourage you to stop by the Outpost and visit with Beaver.

In the land of earthquakes and aftershocks, it's reported that Bill Scott has shaken up the legal world in Los Angeles by being named a partner at the law firm of Shepard Mullin, Richtern and Hampton. Bill's specialty is banking, finance, and corporate matters. He has considerable experience in syndicated and asset-based lending and workouts. Prior to joining Shepard Mullin, Bill received his J.D. from the Albany Law School of Union University in 1985 and an LL.M. in banking law from Boston University in 1986.

From the Eric Miller chronicles, Eric is reporting that his business, Tiger Mark, is doing well and accepting cash orders, and you can place your order at (508) 626-0700. Eric also states that the Miller homestead in Wellesley Mass., has become something of a focal point for the neighborhood children by (1) tapping maple trees for sap and syrup last winter and (2) hosting a wildly successful neighborhood Easter-egg hunt in the spring.
