At our 35 th Reunion, we prevailed over the class of '59 in golf and tennis. Wayne Givens made the arrangements. The winning quartet in golf included Barbie and Jack Hodgson, Dave Sloper, and Bill Moorman. Under scramble, best shot rules, their total over 17 holes was 56.

The competition engendered thoughts about some of the standout athletes of our class and what they are doing now, athletically and otherwise.

Jake Crouthamel, running back, went on to become Dartmouth's head football coach for seven seasons (1971-77), and since 1978 has been athletic director at Syracuse University. He's had a leading role in building and operating the Carrier Dome, which seats 50,000 in football and 33,000 in basketball. Under Jake, Syracuse teams have made seven bowl appearances, gone to the NCAA basketball tournament in all but two years, and won seven NCAA lacrosse titles. He was a founder of the Big East Conference.

Sam Bowlby, offensive tackle and defensive end in football and a rugby player, has practiced law with a New Haven firm since 1966, served as president of the Yale Youth Hockey Association and is proud of his sons, 14 and 10, both playing hockey.

Ryan Ostebo, defenseman in hockey, now an insurance agent in Bellows Falls, Vt., played international hockey in his 50s with friends who were on the 1956 U.S. Olympic hockey team against members of the 1956 Swedish team. In three games, they won one, lost one, and tied one. Ostebo has also run in marathons, but has yet to reach his goal of four hours.

Chuck Kaufman, guard in basketball and shortstop in baseball, now operating a new business auditing telephone and utility bills in Port Washington, N.Y., played in community leagues in baseball and basketball for ten years and is still playing full-court basketball twice a week. He also plays platform tennis.

I did not reach him, but I am told that Gary Vandeweghe, a forward in basketball, now an attorney in San Jose, Calif., is such a fine golfer that he was made a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew's in Scotland.

Of course, this is far from an exhaustive list.

Class president Jim Adler hopes for a good turnout at the mini-reunion at Dartmouth Homecoming, October 20-22. Many class members will stay at the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farms, where a block of rooms has been reserved and the annual class dinner will be held. Phone (802) 295-3133.
