Summer is over, and Hanover is once again turning colors. One other noticeable change on campus is the large number of female students. (For the first time since co-education, the freshman class has more women enrolled than men. Our class helped in changing this tradition.)
Our former class president, Trip Dorkey, has been sworn in as a director of the New York Urban Development Corp. He was appointed by New York Governor George Pataki (whom Trip supported in his race against Mario Cuomo). The Urban Development Corp. is a public-finance authority that attempts to foster business development and revitalize commercial districts. Trip is currently a lawyer in New York City with the firm Haythe and Curley. Trip also writes to say that Tom Ostermueller recently took over as president and CEO of Melville Biologics Inc.
Bill Fraser lives in Boise, Idaho, where he runs Homeworks Inc. Bill designs and builds homes throughout Idaho, especially in the Sun Valley and McCall areas. His wife, Bev, reports that Bill won an award for excellence in design from the Idaho Builders Association. He spends much of his free time skiing (downhill and cross-country) near his vacation home in Sun Valley. Bill missed our 25 th Reunion but promises that he will be back for the next one.
Scott Perry did make it back to Hanover for Reunion. His import/export business takes him around the world constantly. He has two daughters, and, when not away in school, they live with Scott and his wife, Christine, in London. Scott is an avid sailor (off the coast of France and Spain, mostly) and spends time at homes in Uruguay and Spain and a ranch in Chile. He and Christine are now thinking of finding Vermont property near Hanover for summer vacations. (Maybe we can make him a class officer in the future?)
Dick Truex writes that he and his wife, Sharon, recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary (they were married right after graduation). Dick practices internal medicine in Wethersfield, Conn., and has four children. He also serves as president of Physicians' Health Organization through Hartford Hospital. Dick enjoys fishing with his children in the Thousand Island area of New York.
Terry Laughlin lives in Cary, Ill., and commutes to his work in Chicago at Lois USA, the national advertising company. He is vice president and management supervisor (working mostly with Osco Drug and BRK First Alert). Terry loves golf and daily tennis, and he and his wife, Diane, take annual Hawaiian vacations (right after Dartmouth, Terry was a tour guide to the outer islands). He also manages to work out twice a day near his office. Terry writes that he is head of the finance committee of his church. He has two children, Kyle 16 and Kelly 14.
A note from Star Johnson: "The class is again sponsoring mini-reunions this fall. The first is on the Homecoming weekend, October 21-22. The game is with Colgate. We'll have a tent set up on the front lawn of Chi Heorot for all-day barbequing and socializing. You may park your car there for free. The second mini will be November 4 in N.Y.C. for the Columbia game. We will set up in the the parking lot behind the stands at Baker Field for tailgainting before, during, and after the game. We'll supply beer, wine, liquor, and some munchies at both events; you bring food, soda, and, at Columbia, grills. Call me at (603) 643-3942 for details on either event."
L & F: at the end of every column we will include lost-and-found notes from classmates. This month Bill Fraser is looking for Chris Henderson, his fraternity roommate at Sigma Nu, and Scott Perry would like to hear from Paul Frances, his fraternity roommate from Bones Gate. If you have any leads or are looking for a lost friend, be sure to send us a note.
