We're planning another out-of-Hanover reunion—even before the 1998 Reunion in Chicago. Dave Arm-strong is inviting the class for a late winter retreat "'61 in the Sun" in South Florida, this winter. It will be primarily a recreational reunion, and a wonderful respite from the late winter blues, especially for all of you who live in the snow belt.

He's narrowed the choice of resorts to the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach or the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton. "Both are exclusive resorts, with ocean front beaches, large pools, golf, tennis, with snorkling, scuba diving, and ocean fishing available." He's looking at one evening at a dinner theater operated by Roger McArt's cousin, a dinner dance on another night, and a night of fine dining on the third. Dates are not firm yet, but figure on March. Details next month. It's not too late to decide to come to Hanover for Dartmouth Night weekend, October 18-20. Consider a day trip to see the Yale game; attend the pregame picnic at the Fayerweathers; the postgame cocktail reception in the Oberlander Lounge; and dinner at ITAS'CA in White River Junction.

We'll be having our regular mini-reunion class meeting Saturday morning before the picnic. Call mini-reunion chair Art Johnson (860) 274-4502 to make a last-minute reservation.

The class of 1961 is going to have an even more major role in American medicine. We told you last month that P. JohnSeward had become executive vice president of the American Medical Association, that organization's top staff position. Now comes word that John G. King is chairman-elect of the American Hospital Association. King is president and CEO of Legacy Health System in Portland, Ore. A number of our medical classmates are leading specialty organizations.

Ken DeHaven is president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, which represents 20,000 orthopedic surgeons worldwide. Ken is professor, associate chairman, and director of athletic medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Matt Friedman is president of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies, and in addition to serving as professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at Dartmouth, is director of the VA's National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and a member of the VA's Persian Gulf Expert Scientific Advisory Committee.

Dick Beattie has gotten another signal honor: the 1996 Servant of Justice Award of the Legal Aid Society an "annual opportunity to honor an individual whose commitment to justice and public service is a shining example to us all" joining such previous recipients as Cyrus Vance, Whitney North Seymour, Herbert Brownell, David Rockefeller, Walter Cronkite, Vernon Jordan, and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The honor came at a special dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria on April 17. Dick is chairman of the executive committee of Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett, chairman of the Fund for New York City Public Education, and presidential emissary for Cyprus.

We got a note from Neal Davis, senior partner and director of client service for the Cleveland office of Poppe Tyson, an advertising agency that is a division of Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon, and Eckhardt, which he says is the tenth largest global agency. Neal said he and Sondra just celebrated their 25th anniversary; daughter Melissa is 18 and Hilary is 16.
