"He's just a very complex guy who wants it all to be Warren Buffett and Mother Teresa." This is how the Boston Globe recently described Michael Chu, president of Accion International.

The article reviewed how Michael's first three careers—volunteer organizer in a political opposition party in Uruguay, executive with CPC International, and limited partner with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts—prepared him for his current career as an antipoverty soldier providing economically disadvantaged people who own or are starting businesses with access to much-needed capital. Michael's business acumen is behind a philosophy which ensures that Accion's approach is not to give handouts, but to give opportunities and to help individuals to change their own circumstances.
