68 Michael Chu has recently shifted gears, moving from the high-finance world of Kohlberg Kravis I Roberts in New York to Accion International, a Cambridge, Mass., nonprofit agency which specializes in making small-business loans in Latin America. Michael, who was named executive director of Accion in October, has close ties to Latin America. Born in Kunming, China, Michael moved with his family to Uruguay in 1953.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has awarded a special grant to Bangor, Mainebased pediatrician Bob Holmberg. The grant, known as Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) is funded by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories. Bob is one of only 15 physicians nationwide to receive the grant, which is targeted to improve the quality of health care for children. The grant will assist Bob in his work with the Northern New England Rural Pediatricians Alliance.

If you have a hankering for Spam Santas, squid-and-lima-bean casserole, or prunes stuffed with green olives and wrapped in bacon, stop by judge Bob Lynn's courtroom in Minneapolis, Minn., around the holidays. Bob's work as a judge and his unusual food offerings were highlighted in an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The article cites Bob's credentials, including a degree from the University of Minnesota Law School; stints in the army and the Peace Corps, and hobbies which include reading about the Civil War, fishing, and spending time at his cabin in northern Minnesota.

According to a feature article in the Sunday New York Times of February 19, JeffGarten, undersecretary of commerce for international trade, is playing a key supporting role in Washington's new "commercial diplomacy." The article describes Jeff as the "architect of the administration's plan to focus on major 'emerging markets' like China, Brazil and Indonesia" and calls him "the administration's most articulate champion of the new age of foreign economy policy." No doubt taking a cue from his army background, Jeff is credited with transforming a cramped office full of bureaucrats into a war room focused on international trade.
