We hear a lot in our class these days about retirements, moves, and the college graduations and early career steps of our children. But how many of our classmates are just siring their first babies, and twins to boot? That is the case with John Barchilon, M.D. and television producer, of Sherman Oaks, Calif. He and his wife, Beverly, had a boy, Michael Flynn, and a girl, Claudia Elaine, on Dec. 6, and John is mighty proud that as a doctor he trumped the obstetrician by being the first to notice the second fetus on the ultra sound. He also points out that he had a grandfather who had a child at 72 andthathis father started a second family when he was 67. Since John had a great-grandfather who lived to 104 and a grandfather to 102, and his father is still alive, this all seems to run in the family.
Some political news: Bob Farmer, U.S. consul general in Bermuda and a former treasurer of the Democratic National Commitee, writes that he plans to remain in his post this year, but, "Obviously, the most important thing is to re-elect the president. If I were asked for help, I'd be on the next plane." In the meantime, having hosted classmates Tom Franklin and Rick Roesch, Bob is not sated with '60s. "Bermuda is a great destination," he declares, and, in a sweeping invitation, urges, "Come on over!"
At a little more modest level, BobArgazzi has been elected and was top vote getter among seven candidates running for four seats on the Berlin, Conn., school board. "My son, Paul, was elected in the same election to the town council, a much more important post," he remarks. Bob, a lawyer, is a former state representative and deputy mayor of the town where he has lived since high school.
Another public figure is TomTrimarco, serving as first deputy treasurer for the state of Massachusetts in the Weld administration. The Massachusetts economy "is growing at a good rate," Tom declares, but"I still think the state needs to be very wary of expanding our spending."
The Wall St. Journal mentions EricSailer, M.D., a resident of Lyme Center, N.H., as one of 650,000 New Hampshire voters profiled in a dossier prepared on every voter in that politically significant state by Aristotle Publishers and marketed to presidential candidates in the recent primary for $56,000 each. Eric's daughter, Annabelle, works for the outfit, which described Eric as 6-foot-2-inch, 200pound, blue-eyed, brown-haired Republican.
Jon Cohen, long an enthusiastic Tuck volunteer and overseer, has been named chairman of the Tuck School Board of Overseers. Nick Muller, director of the Wisconsin state historic society, has been elected to the board of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
