They call him the Riverboat Rambo.Tom Grey '62, founder and executive director of the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling, is gaining national attention as he leads a grassroots charge against the spread of legalized gaming to a town or riverboat near you. As more and more commercial companies and cash strapped municipalities are turning to gambling as a source of easy money, Grey, an Illinois pastor, has convinced 23 states that there is a hellish side to slotmachine heaven: addictive gambling, crime, and a Wal Martlike diversion of patronage from a community's other businesses. As he told Time magazine, one of a flurry of national publications spotlighting his efforts, politicians are "fleecing their flock by escorting gambling into their states."
