We're starting a new campaign: take a '61 to lunch or dinner. While a few classmates may live in splendid isolation, most of us reside in metropolitan areas or states with a number of classmates. Just the other afternoon, BruceForester, Bob Fuller, Roger McArt, and ArtJohnson were together in one community while on the other side of the country, OscarArslanian was lunching with Duane Cox. Sometimes these meetings can have a purpose, but why not just get together for the fun of it? Create your own micro-reunion.

Mini-reunion chair Art Johnson said that everything outlined in last month's column for our Halloween/Dartmouth Night mini-reunion will happen as planned. There are several additions and elaborations: (1) Professor MikeGazzaniga will host a post-bonfire reception at his spacious home in Sharon, Vt., a couple of interchanges up 1-89 from White River Junction. It was a wonderful experience last year and well worth the trip and we appreciate Mike's hospitality. (2) The College has okayed the post-game keg at the Frost statue, where we'll be celebrating our victory over Hahhvahd, and helping to make the Frost statue a Dartmouth alumni magnet. (3) The Sunday morning farewell brunch at the Sumner Mansion is definite. Deadlines will be approaching fast when you read this; the deadline for the special rates at the Airport Economy Inn is Oct. 1. Questions? Call Art Johnson at his office, (800) 446-8646.

Our Chicago reunion is beginning to take shape, though the schedule is still at the early planning stages at this writing, reports president Oscar Arslanian. As we noted last month, the dates are June 4-7; the famed Fairmont Hotel will be our headquarters. The Chicago planning committee is considering a number of options, including (perhaps) a boat ride on the Chicago River and out into Lake Michigan to see the skyline from a somewhat different angle; a class dinner in one of the Loop/Near-North-Side museums; tours of the Chicago's famous outdoor sculptures, etc. It should be fan, and well worth blocking out the dates, now.

Pete Bleyler reports that we raised $146,000 for the Dartmouth Alumni Fund, which was about 98 percent of our goal. We had 54-percent participation, "a bit higher than last year, which was a reunion year." Overall, he said, "we had a fine year. I just wish we had gotten the additional $3,300." He said a number of classmates had given this year who did not give last year, though that was somewhat offset by 50 that gave last year but not this year. "Thanks to everybody for their good effort," he said. The key helpers were Maynard Wheeler, fraternity chair; AlanOrschel, regional chair, and Bill Glenn, Oscar Arslanian, Red Facher, DonO'Neill, Dave Prewitt, Vic Rich, DaveBlake, John Henry, Henry Eberhardt,Len DiSavino, Ron Boss, GerryKaminsky, Ron Wybranowski, and Larry Levy, all leadership agents. If those missing 50 had given, we might have made our goal.

This month's column marks 20 years in this job, since then-president GerryKaminsky called me in mid-summer and said we needed a class secretary, and would I agree to do it "for a while." I guess 20 years is awhile. And this month, I completed my term as president of the Dartmouth Club of the Piedmont, the second club I've headed. Is there any wonder I sometimes feel green?
