Our gala 50th birthday party in Washington, D.C., is only a month away! And you won't even need your car.

On Friday, May 5, we'll gather on the rooftop terrace of Charlie Buffon's law firm, Covington & Burling, for a cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres. The building, at 1201 Pennsylvania, overlooks much of the heart of Washington.

Saturday, for lunch, we'll take a boat ride up and down the Potomac River, seeing a different view of Washington than you ordinarily can get walking or by car. And Saturday night, we'll have a dinner dance at the historic National Press Club, scene of so many dramatic speeches and revelations.

Our hotel is the J.W. Marriott, flagship of the hotel chain, and a building within easy talking distance of most of the museums. Our class has reserved a block of 50 rooms at a special rate. And that means that everything is in easy walking distance, said Charlie, who has been handling the arrangements. It's just a few steps from the Marriott to Charlie's office. The National Press Club is across the street. Even the boat trip will be easy to reach. Details on all these events will reach classmates through the newsletter. For those of you in other, younger classes: why not plan to celebrate the half-century mark with your friends.

Meanwhile, class president Vic Rich announced that two old war horses had agreed to be saddled with our 30th Reunion in June 1990. Ron Wybranowski, who did such a terrific job on our 25th Reunion, has agreed to be Reunion co-chairman along with former class president and current mini-reunion chair Dave Prewitt. They're dividing responsibilities this way: Ron will be responsible for liaison with the College and for planning specific reunion events. Dave will deal with reservations and other elements affecting us as classmates, and will worry about finances.

Ron says he called Vic to tell him specifically that he would be a "guest" at the 30th Reunion, and two minutes later hung up asking, "What did I do?"

Actually, Ron still has all the data from the 25th squirreled away on Macintosh disks, so the model for a successful reunion is all there. Of course, we'll let you know the details as it gets a bit closer.
