Four-Time Champ

Nicknames abound for the solid hulk of a record breaker Adam Nelson '97. His shot put throws have been characterized as "Herculean as he has pounded through the school record book. Last May Nelson joined Navy's Robert Sehnert (1988-91) as the only other four-time champion at the annual Heptagonal Championships.

Nelson's most significant achievement, though, coincided with the end of his undergraduate career. While his class was at graduation, Nelson was at the NCAA championships in Bloomington, Indiana. His second throw of 64 feet 41/2 inches broke NCAA, Dartmouth, and Nelson's own personal records.
