Conquering Everest
The weather .was worse than norma), jet stream winds in excess of 100m.p.h. plagued us and destroyed several teams' tents. Again this year. climbers were killed, including five men on May 7-8,the first last year's well-publicized disaster. Sadly, three of those lost were from my team.
After 46 days on Everestand ten consecutive days of wind storms,I made a solo summit bid on May 22.
I was last last of 11 members of my team to reach the top. As a dual citizen, I became the eighth Canadian to reach the top of Everest arid the other "Green" Everest summiters Barry Bishop '53 (a member of the first American ascent in 1963) and Ned Gillette '67
Andy Evans ontop of the world.
