"He and his date (from Bennington) were sitting in the rumble seat of a car driven by ? coming back from a party at Lake Morey during the spring. Route 5 was along the river and pretty winding. The car went off the road and he was thrown out, landing on the beach. The rumble seat closed and it took a long time before it could be pried open. His date was not in it, having been thrown clear into the river. It was weeks before her body was found down near Northampton."
