Neil Drobny wrote recently. He heads up a consulting firm, E-Commerce Technology, that provides environmental management services to industry. The company is also a business partner of IBM and encourages the growth of electronic commerce in the state of Ohio. Additionally, Neil serves as an advisor to academic programs at Ohio State and Miami (of Ohio) universities. Neil writes, "This is an opportune time for Ohio companies to unlock the incredible business potential of the internet, most notably through the possibilities created by e-commerce technology." (Need I add that I heard from Neil electronically?)
George Freedman is a classmate that we see often in the course of daily rounds. He is too modest to toot his own horn, but I bet that others would like to hear about George. He is an accomplished clinical psychiatrist in private office practice as well as associate chief of the psychiatry service at Salem Hospital in Salem, Mass. George is a community and philanthropic activist well known on Boston's North Shore. Not only that, but George is an accomplished cartoonist and the author of several books! We should twist George and All's arms and get them to Hanover for the mini-reunions.
We had a chance to catch up with DanHadlock, David "Bags" Bergman, and Alan Rapoport recently. Career paths diverged after June of 1962 but there are some parallel tracks as well: medical school, residencies, military service, and the practice of different medical specialties. Dan is a medical oncologist in Austin, Texas, David is a psychiatrist in the San Diego area, and Alan is a neurologist specializing in the problem of headache in Norwalk and Stamford, Conn. We didn't talk shop too much, although I do recall basking in the afternoon sun outside a pub in Kil Crohane, County Cork, Ireland, with Dan and Bags and got on the subject of the chaos of medical ayment schemes afoot nationally. Dan remarked, "Remember the bad ol days when there was a fee for service system and it all seemed more affordable?" "True," said David, "but die whole system is such a mess now. I think the only thing we can do is to go to a single-payer system." I nodded in agreement, quaffed some Beamish Red, and made a mental note that we would have to thrash this great issue of our time out before the tour ended. (Well, perhaps on another trip or reunion.) Anyone out there wish to weigh in on the subject?
Clem Edgar is a civil engineer from Glenmont, N.Y., and it was good to see him and his wife, Tina, on the England-Ireland trip. Clem elucidated us on the fine points of center-stay bridge construction as we zipped over the Severn River on our way to Wales. Nice to have smart people around you whether it's in the United States, London, Wales, or Ireland. Spouses and significant others: if you can't get our classmates to write, please take charge, authenticate, and communicate.
