Polly Duncan Collum is the new pastoral coordinator for Tippah County, Miss., and, with a group of other folks in that part of northeast Mississippi, she is trying to start a Catholic church in the town of Ripley—in a county of only 20,000 that already has 187 Protestant churches. Known for its 50-acre flea market and as one of Faulkner's homes, Ripley is a long way—literally and figuratively—from Washington, D.C., where she, husband Danny, son Christopher 7, and daughter Maggie Lee 3 lived for several years. "We were actually able to purchase a home," she wrote, "with a lovely half-acre yard full of azaleas, dogwoods, pecan trees, oaks, even a fig." It is the real thing, this Southern home of theirs, with a wraparound porch with its own swing. And it becomes even more of a Southern home those few times a week when Maggie Lee's babysitter shows, Charlene Presley, whose husband is Elvis's fifth cousin. (Did I also mention that Ripley is only 75 miles from Graceland?)
Classmate Robin Webb and his wife Amy live in Boulder, Colo., and they had their first boy-Ben-last summer; Ben joins sibling Molly, who's almost 3. Robin works at UC-Boulder on paleoclimatology-say that three times, real fast-and while his main gig is as a research scientist with NoAA, he is also affiliated with the University of Colorado.
And Julie Koeninger wrote to say that "things are pretty crazy" at the Koeninger/D'Anierii house with the addition of twins Matthew and Thomas; a year old by now, they join brother Andrew, who is 3. Julie is back full-time as portfolio manager for the Hancock Agricultural Investment Group in Boston, and, like Polly, they have a brand new home-this one in Wellesley, with swing set and sandbox. "But we're still trying to avoid the mini-van purchase," said Julie.
