The College has recently honored seven alumni for their outstanding service to Dartmouth in 1998. The Alumni Council: gave out five of the awards last fall and Winter:

Alumni Award recipient Gary Dicovitsky '72 began a career in education working various assignments in admissions, athletics, and development at Dartmouth before taking on responsibility for alumni relations ,at Pomona College in California. His expertise in those fields have shown in his efforts on behalf of Dartmouth with clubs, as vice president and enrollment director; with his class, on the executive committee and as reunion chair, and president; and with the College, as member and president of the Alumni Council.

Years spent managing and editing The Dartmouth prepared KeithHarold Hammonds '81, winner of the Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award, for a career in journalism and his current role as associate editor for social issues for Business Week. After graduation he turned his writing skills to the roles of secretary and newsletter editor and his management skills to the roles of enrollment officer, class agent, member of the Tenth Reunion Committee, and class rep on the Alumni Council.

Sherri Carrol! Oberg '82, Tu'86, Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award recipient, has continued to return to Dartmouth. After graduation and a brief stint with a New York City bank, she came back to Hanover for an M.B.A. at Tuck. In the past five years she has continued to shuttle from Boston to Hanover, from her roles as CEO of biotechnology companies and wife (of Curt Oberg '78) and mother of two children to her roles as member and president of the Alumni Council and a member of the Board of Overseers at Tuck.

Frederick Prentice 72 earned an Alumni Award for the breadth and length of service to Dartmouth. He's been class president, member of his class executive committee, club president for 15 years and club liaison officer for half that long, enrollment director, fraternity advisor, honorary society trustee, and Alumni Councilor. Proximity has helped, as he lives in his hometown of Montpelier, Vermont, where he has worked as legal counsel for an insurance company and as vice president and general counsel for a bank. He has also taught at the Vermont Law School.

Alumni Award recipient David Schaefer '63, when not working at his own advertising agency in Boston, has filled almost every possible class role. He has served as president (three times), newsletter editor (twice), member of reunion committees (seven), secretary, member of the executive committee and Alumni Council, class agent. In addition he co-founded the Dartmouth Executive Network, an independent search and placement firm connecting Dartmouth graduate school students with corporations.

In addition, two alumni were honored for their service to clubs:

Robert Sanner '67 received the District Enrollment Officer of the Year Award for his efforts in the Peninsula South area of Silicon Valley, Calif. He was recognized for his work in helping the best and brightest students in the South Peninsula area of Silicon Valley find their way to Dartmouth.

Marc Lewis '80, president of the Fairfield County (Conn.) Club, has been named Club President of the Year. Lewis, who is also president of the Club Officers Association, led his club to an ditional honor: the Large Club of the Year Award. Lewis has headed the Fairfield club for several years and has provided numerous opportunities for 1,500 alumni, parents, and friends of Dartmouth to stay involved with the College.
