THERE ARE THE ARTSY SCHOOLS, Yale, NYU, the ones with the reputations. At Dartmouth, except for the handful of main-stage productions each term, the student performers create their art at the edges, away from the limelight—in the dorms, the fraternities, the Collis Center. Some of the student overnight and disappear just as quickly. The students are in it for fun, or for real, or, increasingly, to hold on to their cultures. "With only one thing in common," says photographer Alex Waldman '99. "They want to be seen."
