This column should find classmates adjusting to the 21 st century, and the outcome of the New Hampshire presidential primary. Now for important matters: I received an e-mail message from Dick Mitchell's grandson, also same name, who is assistant county attorney in Oswego County, N.Y., saying his grandfather continues to go to his law office in Oswego "and has no intention of retiring." Said the grandson of his grandfather: "He works more than 40 hours per week and practices with his son,
grandson and son-in-law at Mitchell, Mitchell and Palmer." The purpose ofhis message was to request help in getting Dick's alumni records corrected and up to date, which I did with amazing results. I forwarded the e-mail to Hanover and the mix-up was fixed overnight. A fascinating family story, because of space limitations I can only paraphrase:
Dick and his wife, Anamae, have been married more than 60 years; they have three children, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dick's Dartmouth cane "is on the shelf in his game room," he wears a pacemaker, has "more green blazers than anyone I know," the grandson said, and the family is "trying to persuade him to attend 65th Reunion." Dick's home address is 371 East River road, Oswego, NY; (315) 343-3080. He'll also take calls at his law office, (315) 343-3866
This by snail-mail from Maury Rapf: "You asked for a Green Card; I don't have one. A dinner in Collis was given in my honor to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Dartmouth Film Society. I had a hand in starting DFS, but the real founder was Blair Watson." Maury added that there is a plaque commemorating the founding in the lobby of Spaulding Auditorium.
Classmate Dr. Bernard "Ben" ElliottRein died July 11, 1999, in Milwaukee, Wis., where he had a dental practice. Survivors include his wife, Joan, son John and daughters Barbara and Marjorie.
