It's a pretty slow news month in '70-land. It's time for you guys to crank up the e-mail and get me something to write about. It's a good month to catch up on some job changes I haven't gotten around to passing on yet.

Did hear that James Nellen was named president of Ameritech Wisconsin, coming over from his job as vice president of the Fort Howard Corp., where he was general counsel. Fort Howard is a multinational tissue manufacturer and marketer based in Green Bay. Ameritech Wisconsin is, of course, the major phone company in Wisconsin, serving about two-thirds of the state's telephone customers.

Ameritech executive VP Barry Allen called Jim "a talented, knowledgeable executive who has a deep appreciation of the issues that are important to Wisconsin." Jim has lived there basically forever, except when he was away at Dartmouth and then the University of Virginia, where he got his law degree.

Now we know whom to call in the early hours of the morning when the phone goes out in Wisconsin.

For some reason I just recently got the notice that Bob Whitcomb had been promoted from editor to VP and editor of the editorial pages for the Providence Journal Cos. He has been in charge of the editorial pages since 1992. Bob has been with the Journal since 1976, except for a stint as financial editor of the International HeraldTribune based in Paris. Bob got a master's in journalism from Columbia. He's on the board of the ALS Association of Rhode Island.

I'm also just catching up with the fact that Gary Ellsworth joined USEC Inc. as vice president, government relations. He was formerly chief counsel of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. USEC is a world leader in the production and sale of uranium fuel enrichment services for commercial nuclear-power plants.

William Timbers, president and CEO of USEC, said, "Gary Ellsworth has earned widespread respect throughout Congress, the government and industry for his expertise, judgment and perspective. We are fortunate to have him lead our government relations activities." Gary got his law degree from the International Law School after serving Navy as an engineering officer.

Congratulations to you all. Let's get those e-mails flowing in.
