New Yorker Bob Kirkpatrick's still getting used to his move from advertising in St. Louis to VP of global media with Colgate-Palmolive: "The shock of voluntarily putting myself amid Yankees, Mets and Knicks fans was only exceeded by coming to grips with the reality of the suburban New York housing market." Bob's joined the board of Dartmouth Broadcasting, coaxed by Stu Zuckerman '70. Bob's been on campus with the undergrads running WDCR and WFRD who are "doing a great job keeping the traditions alive." My only advice, Bob, is not to bet against those N.Y.C. teams, as I foolishly did defending my old Bal'mer teams, since folks like JonEinsidler won't let you forget, 31 years later, how the Colts got trounced byjoe Willie's team.
More from Charles Schudson, Judge Schudson to Wisconsins: Charlie was one of the recent winners of the Freedom Human Rights Leadership Award for being "on the front lines in the battle to protect the rights of children, women and the elderly in our courts." As co-author of On Trial: America'sCourts and Their Treatment of Sexually AbusedChildren, Charlie's been cited in The ChicagoTribune as "one of the few judges around the country at the forefront of the effort to ease the burden of child witnesses." Way to go, Charlie!
Close to my home, Thurm Lowans (also a judge, on the Superior Court bench), with a new e-mail address to share (twlowans@home.com) asks, "Where in the world is Dave Knopman?" So, Dave, please pipe up! Thurm's delighted with his recent laser eye surgery, which has "given me 20/20 vision for the first time since the age of 5, and a whole new world has opened up, although the little stuff must still be viewed through readers." And finally, Wayne Pirmann offers a slew of "financial calculators" off his website www.pirmann.com, including "What it takes to save a million dollars" and "What should I budget for raising a child?" which for some of us (you—not I) might also mean grandchildren. If you do have grandkids already, please drop me a line—a glimpse of what's ahead?!
That wraps it up for this month. Keep those e-mails and letters coming!
