Fall greetings! Changing leaves. Homecoming Weekend. Beer pong. Ah, the senses go back.
First off, an e-mail update from Dick White (rlwhite@rci.rutgers.edu): "You guys at Amazon have certainly been in the news a lot. Hope you're enjoying the job and the adventure! (Secretary's Note: Well, it's been that, and more!!) In late April during a spring vacation visit to Washington, D.C., I met my three-year roommate Jim Stearns for the first time in 28 years. The last time was in 1973 when Jim and I were both studying in England. Jim is an attorney for Porter Wright Morris & Arthur in Washington, where he handles international and adminis- trative law. I have been at Rutgers University for 10 years as director of the career services office. We recalled a number of old friends and roommates including Tom Preacher, Jack Curley, Dave Borns, Jim Harris and Steve Stetson.
"On another note, Lou Fantin and I both showed up for each other's surprise 50th birthday parties. Mine was in Madison, New Jersey, in late June and Lou's was in Yardley, Pennsylvania, in mid-July. Our family (Kerstin, Janine, 14, Lisa, 13, and Eric, 7) are visiting your part of the country in a few weeks. We hear that it doesn't rain in Seattle in August. Is that true?" Yup!!
And from David Watters (dhw@cisunix. unh.edu): "I've been appointed by Governor Shaheen to the N.H. Historical Resources Council. In August I will be a New Hampshire delegate to the Democratic Party national convention." Congrats also to Craig Bentley, appointed principal of the MAGE Financial Services Group, founded in 1983 and based in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Mage has businesses in Canada and the States; Craig will wear a number of hats, including part-time CFO, mergers and acquisitions, strategic capital planning and executive coaching.
As Dick noted and I commented, Amazon.com continues to be an adventure. In addition to adding another customer service center to our global network, I've been named to the boards of directors at Greenlight.com, an Amazon.com Commerce Network partner, and Daksh.com, a New Delhi-based partner. And, in short order, it's showtime! (Holiday crunch time forus). Keep those e-mails and notes coming, especially you, Mark Foster.
