Hey there '99s. I hope that many of you had the chance to head back to Hanover for Winter Carnival a couple of weeks ago and didn't have too much trouble getting readapted to the subzero temperatures.
I am saddened to report the death of our classmate Lynn Proctor, who passed away last fall. Lynn was a member of the Women in Science Program while at Dartmouth, and was studying in the Cornell graduate program in applied physics with the intent of getting a Ph.D. At Dartmouth Lynn was the recipient of the Chair's Award in Physics, an award created to honor her—and subsequent seniors—for distinguishing herself in the department aside from grade point averages or theses. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lynn's family and friends.
I received a number of blitzes from classmates who ran into other '99s during the holidays a couple of months ago. Ann DeBord writes, "I was skiing in Vail the week after Christmas and was at the top of Game Creek Bowl when I saw a bunch of folks wearing Dartmouth ski team coats. Among them was our own '99, Andy Pennock So I got to talk to Andy for a little bit. He seems very happy at med school in Chicago. Wish we'd taken a picture for the Class Notes, but the oxygen's a little thin up there and just we didn't think of it." Well, Ann, maybe next time.
Elizabeth Davis wrote to tell me of the goings on with her and her Sigma Delt friends. She spent the New Year in Southold, Long Island, at LeahCampbell's family place with Leah, Scotty McConnaughey Maureen McAleer,Kristin Sadlon Erin Broderick KylieBooth, Claire Riley, Melissa Rikard and Leslie Kinsey.
"We spent Thursday through Sunday chillin and scheming up ways to avoid the whole 'work' thing. We haven't come up with a solution as of yet but we're still working on it," she told me. Meanwhile, "Kylie is engrossed in her med school classes up in Toronto while Claire is continuing her interviews and awaiting responses from med schools. Melissa has been accepted and will be attending Vanderbilt Law next year. The rest of us are slaving away at our corporate jobs..."
Sally Dickinson, Patrick DeLeon and Adam Milligan '96 are bicycling from Fairbanks to Anchorage next August to raise money for three teams of AfDS vaccine researchers, including Dr. David Ho (Time's 1996 Man of the Year). Get in touch with them through their blitz accounts for more info, to send large sums of unmarked cash, or to give advice on "how not to get eaten by bears."
Catherine Maxson recently took a break from her job at Bill Bradley's national headquarters (where she works with Zack Hafer) to attend Adrienne Wilson's debutante ball. Dave Wagner, Maria-Angelica Martinez,Debbie Bender, and Leigh Eiseman also attended the "Adrienne in Wonderland-themed event, which was attended by 400 people. Congratulations, Adrienne.
Also making her debut recently albeit in stand-up comedy, was Erica Rivinoja. SeanTaylor and Grace Eboigbe were at Caroline's Comedy Club in N.Y.C. to witness the event and cheer her on. "Erica was brilliant," Sean recalled.
Congratulations also go to Jennifer Prusik who became engaged on Christmas Eve 1999 to her boyfriend from West Point, Brian Moore. "Don't worry, the wedding won't be for awhile," she says. But make sure you send them a note to wish them well anyway.
Well, folks, that's it for now. Take care and I'll see you next month. Cheers.
