Sometimes I think the persons in the classes immediately before and after us have more interesting jobs than we do. Did everyone read in the September/October 2000 Alumni Mag's "Give A Rouse" column about Bill Asher'84 becoming president of Vivid Entertainment? Bill was also featured in a big article in the November 28 edition of The Wall Street Journal and specifically identified as a Dartmouth graduate. Although I am sure that many of us are tangentially connected, apparently not too many Ivy League graduates work directly in the pornography business. If more did, the Mag column could be changed to "Get Aroused."
Dr. Ray Blackwell can run 400 meters in- doors faster than any other man age 40 to 44 ever has, and he has the indoor world record from the National Indoor Masters Track and Field Championships held in Boston in March 2000 to prove it. When not running, Ray stays busy as a heart surgeon, husband, father of two girls and community volunteer. Ray attributes his success on the track to his ability to run through the pain, but that formula works off the track as well. Sometimes a little George Dickel helps.
Dr. Jackie Brown Gettys has been elected to fellowship in the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the Capital Health System medical staff in Trenton, New Jersey.
President Merle Adelman is director of marketing for the electromedical division (EMD) of Siemens Medical Systems. Charles Carroll is general counsel of Asia Global Crossing, a joint venture of Global Crossing, Softbank and Microsoft. Previously Charlie was a partner with Simpson Thatcher & Bartlett, where he focused on corporate finance. Asia Global Crossing was created to provide the Asia Pacific region access to a broadband, seamless global network through a combination of high-capacity city rings, terrestrial systems and undersea cables. And if any of you know what that means, you are more informed than I am.

Frank Batten made a bundle—at least on paper—on Red Hat, although his old man would not listen to him when it first came time to invest. Meanwhile, Frank is chairman of Landmark Communications Inc., a media company whose holdings include The Roanoke Times,The News & Record, The Virginian-Pilot and The Weather Channel.
Chris Wilson is senior vice president and director of development for Stribling Marketing Associates. Something to do with promoting the idea of living high off the ground in New York City real estate, I believe.
