Warning: this column is all about babies. For the parents among us, if you think that your newborn is the cutest, most precious thing you've ever seen and no other baby comes close, please indulge the rest of us new moms and dads while we share our good news. Your class secretary gets to go first this time. Zach Levine and I are the proud parents of Julia Alexis Levine, born on January 26 .Julia helped us organize a mini-reunion in the maternity ward at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C., by arriving just one day ahead of Aaron and Simon Rosenthai, twin boys born to Seth Rosenthal and his wife, Stephanie, on January 27. Adam Lehman joined the festivities, stopping by for a visit with his wife, Belinda, and 2-year-old daughter Dahlia. Andrew Skilton is another new arrival who qualifies for the Dartmouth class of 2022, but he was a few days late for the reunion, showing up at Sibley Hospital on February 6. His parents, Molly Jo and Tom Skilton, also have a 2-year-old son, Jack.
Lisa Tucker McElroy and her husband, Steve, had their second child, Abigail Diana, on February 1. Big sister Zoe is 1-1/2. The McElroys live in the tiny town of Carlisle, Massachusetts, 20 miles west of Boston, with their two dogs, three cats and two daughters. Lisa is taking a break from practicing law to help the rest of us parents have something to read to our older children. In the past two years she's finished four children's books about fascinating grandmothers: Meet MyGrandmother: She's a Supreme Court Justice (with Sandra Day O'Connor and her granddaughter), Meet My Grandmother: She's a United States Senator (with Dianne Feinstein and her granddaughter), Meet My Grandmother: She's a Deep-Sea Explorer (with Sylvia Earle and her grandsons) and MeetMy Grandmother: She's a Children's Book Author (with Vicki Cobb and her granddaughter). Lisa was interviewed on the Today Show about them last year and has been giving readings and talks ever since
Ed Nelson and his wife, Gloria, welcomed Alexandra Whitney on January 9. She joins big brother Richard. The news comes courtesy of Jean Robertson Getraer, who spends much of her time in baby land. Jean has four kids of her own (including twins!) and says she's putting seven years of breastfeeding experience to good use as a La Leche League leader, providing telephone help and leading meetings which offer support for mothers.
Stacy Higgins sends word of her baby daughter Zoe, born June 19. Stacy is a general internist at Emory in Atlanta, where she moved after finishing her residency at Columbia Presbyterian in New York City. She and her husband, Devon, a high school math teacher, closed on their new home in Stone Mountain, Georgia, the day after Zoe was born.
David Hammond sent one of the more enthusiastic notices I've received about new members of the family. "Baby Hambone is in the 'House!' " read the e-mail. Sarah Annmarie Hammond was born on November 30 with "a full head of jet black hair." David, wife Chris, baby Sarah and their golden retriever Shaker live in Rochester, New York.
Kara Kelly Milner and her husband, David, welcomed Matthew Hudson Milner on November 15. Kara says they're calling him "Teo." The Milners are planning a move to Rhode Island this spring from their home in Culpepper, Virginia.
Finally, Sarah Beasley Monzon and her husband, Ricardo, got an October surprise from son Sebastian, born "hale and hearty five weeks early on October 10." Sarah writes, "We can't wait to see what sort of talents he'll have with a Latin percussionist father and a mother who threw the hammer and shot at Dartmouth!" When she's not training Sebastian for the 2020 Olympics, Sarah produces and co-directs the syndicated TV series Bob Vila's Home Again.
