A second biker, other than Charlie Henderson, has emerged from the three roommates in 115 New Hampshire Hall back in 1954. Al LaBrecque is an annual participant in the 100-mile trip from the South Street Seaport in New York to Southampton on Long Island. Al suffered serious injuries from a terrible wipeout eightyears ago, but after lots of medical care, theraphy and hard work, he is back at it and doing lots of long rides to raise money for charity, especially AIDS research. Al continues to practice law, and his office is around the corner from his old high school in Red Bank, New Jersey, the town he has lived in all his life. Bobbi still teaches, and the two of them dote over the four grandsons that their two daughters have produced.
I called the third roommate, Paul Wysard, to see if it was a trifecta. But Paul assures me that he has no intention of taking up the bicycle. Golf is the only sport he intends to pursue. He and Jan still live on Maui, where retirement is great for a golfer not to mention everybody else. They were just returned from China, which ".. .we don't need to see again, especially for the Olympics." They are planning on the trip to Tuscany that the College is sponsoring in November. Sally and I took it a couple of years ago, and it is not to be missed.
John Coulter called to say he had visited with Vince Hovanec in Florida, and they had a great gettogether. Apparently there was a fierce tennis match, and John, when asked who won, said the announcement of the results will be made at the reunion banquet at our 45 th.
About the time you read this, you should receive the flyer announcing the details for our annual mini-reunion October 19 and 20 at the Fireside Inn in West Lebanon. Joe Jacquet has done all the planning for the events, and it was a labor of love to get it done. Aside from medical problems that Lynne had in January, in late May Joe underwent his second by-pass operation in 10 years. I spoke with him four weeks to the day of the surgery, and he reports he is making good and steady progress and will be here for the weekend.
In addition to the mini-reunion weekend, we will be trying something new this fall. There will be a gathering after each home football game for members of the class, spouses, partners, dates, etc. Dave and Ann Bradley will host after the UNH game on September 22 at their Hanover home; Sally arid I will host after Penn on September 29 at our condo in Hanover; John and Marsha Armstrong will host after Cornell on November 3 at their home in Lyme; and Peter and Susan Williamson will host after Princeton on November 17 at their home in Lyme. Directions and details will appear in the next edition of John Murphy's newsletter, so if you can't make it for mini-reunion, you should attend one of these gatherings.
