Our seemingly tireless classmate Ted Harris has taken on yet another assignment. Ted has assumed, office as the governor for the northern California region of the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine. Elected to a four-year term by that regions membership, his responsibilities will include planning scientific meetings, credentialing new members and disseminating college policy. He will also represent the regions members on the national board of governors.

Another tireless classmate is Charlie Henderson. Last year I reported on his Paris to Toulouse to Paris bike race. This year Charlie is in training for yet another marathon. He will participate in the Boston to Montreal to Boston race, which will go over three spines of the Green Mountains, including the Middle bury Notch. Reports are that he will get no more than three hours of REM sleep at any time during the race. Given the winter we just had in this neck of the woods (54 inches of snow in March for a new record) it is possible there will still be snow on the road as Charlie goes over those peaks.

There was a small piece in the "Newsmakers" section of the last issue of the Alumni Magazine that may have been missed by many and which certainly bears repeating. Bob Downey has received the Dartmouth Alumni Award, which, "...is given in recognition of outstanding service to the College over an extended period of time...to those who are distinguished for high achievement in their careers." As the magazine stated, Bob led Goldman Sachs to preeminence in municipal bonds, served as national co-chair of the major gifts committee of the capital campaign, Will to Excel, has been on four class reunion giving committees, has been a member of the Presidents Advisory Committee and the Presidents Leadership Council. Bob has served as an advisor to Presidents Kemeny, McLaughlin, Freedman and Wright. The award is given to a limited number of alumni each year (usually six to 10) and was established by the Alumni Council. The first award was presented to Ernest Martin Hopkins 'Ol in 1954. Bob joins a pretty distinguished group of classmates who have received the award including Mel Alperin, Dave Bradley, John Graf, Joel Portugal, Walter Vail and Walter Yusen.

An interesting e-mail from Dave Parsons regarding his mothers dance card from the 1928 Winter Carnival Ball held at the Dartmouth Outing Club house provided the names of the gentlemen with whom she danced that evening. A check in the alumni directory indicates that all are deceased. However, the list has been sent on to the class secretary of 1929, and that may bring forth some memories from that group. Keep an eye on that column in the next Alumni Magazine issue to see the tie between the classes.

Guys, let me hear from you.
