After two years in Spain and four years in Brazil, Roberto Sanchez and wife Mary Jo are now back in the States and are living in Palm Harbor, Florida (Clearwater area). Dick Glovsky was honored October 17, along with brothers Bob and Chuck, by the American Jewish Committee. All three have been active in community affairs and have strived to make the world a better place. Dicks many achievements and awards have been chronicled over the years in this column.
The Great Barrington (Massachusetts) Rotary has named Chip Elitzer Citizen of the Year for establishing a program that brings low-cost personal computers into the home of every student in the Berkshire Hills school district. Chip is an investment banker and has served as a consultant to the Berkshire South Community Center development project and helped arrange $2 million in fundraising for the Hevreh synagogue. After leaving Dartmouth Chip spent two years in the Peace Corps and later received his master's degree in public administration from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton.
The architecture firm of Munkenbeck and Marshall has been chosen to design the new Grand Rapids (Michigan) Art Museum. Al Munkenbeck and partner Stephen Marshall established their firm in 1985 and have won numerous awards in England. The museum will be the firm's first permanent building in the United States.
Bill Jaspersohn has added The Scrimshaw Ring to the Vermont Folklife Centers acclaimed "Family Heritage Series," which Bill also edits. This tale recounts a young boys hair-raising encounter with a band of terrifying, lawless pirates and the surprising memento they leave him. It is based on real events that occurred in Newport, Rhode Island, around the year 1710. It is distributed by the Independent Publishers Group (www.ipgbook.com).
