Thirty-oners, here we go again. Bearing in mind that the new war may well be delayed perhaps long enough for the powers that be to develop a strategy to slow down the approach of that old asteroid (see The New YorkTimes, November 19), our class "remnants" are enjoying various retirement programs and recalling significant episodes in their lives enough to make a readable history for Baker Library shelves.
Bob Oelman writes from the village of Golf, recalling the summer spent at Harwichport, Massachusetts, after WW II.As I write this in mid-December, his family was planning a Christmas reunion in Mexico with the six great-grandchildren and his nine grandchildren, who live in many different parts of the world and have been pursuing their education at 13 different institutions of learning. Bob fondly recalls his student time in Vienna, where he met his bride and where they together enjoyed the charm of the rose gardens of the Hapsburgs.
Larry Allen writes from Peabody, Massachusetts, and of his summer boating at Booth Bay and the memorable trips he and Mary enjoyed cruising the Rhine and the coast of Norway (a true Dartmouth family, Mary's father, two brothers, a nephew and a niece all attended Dartmouth).
Spence Miller writes from Portland, Maine, recalling his association with the late Chub Hetfield when they shared the duties of co-director of Dragon Cement, and the good times he and Ralph Maynard shared at football games, especially the last game in Palmer Stadium.
