The class of '54 steps forward again. Thanks to the strong efforts of Steve Mullins and Tom Kelsey (and John Ballard '55) the swimming and diving program at Dartmouth is alive and well. Despite the administrations efforts to cut the programs because of budget restraints, Steve and Tom were able to pull together funding from alumni and parents to save the program. Job well done!

Last November Tom Scott ran for senator for the West Virginia 5th Senatorial District covering Wayne and Cabell counties.Tom is the founder of Scott Orthopedic and the founder of United Huntington Industries. He has been active in the Marshall University board of governors, served as chair of Catastrophic Illness Committee and has been involved with Cammack Children's Center Hospice, Prestera, Public Port Authority, Huntington Industrial Corp. and OUCH. He previously served as a state senator.

Ron Dougherty received the Canton, Ohio, Regional Chamber of Commerces most prestigious award, the Award of Merit, for close to 40 years of service to the community. It would take more than a full column to set forth all of Rons contributions to his community and profession. Just a sampling: He has been active in the chambers Hall of Fame Festival since it was organized in 1965 and was general chair in 1992. He was chair of the chamber board in 1995 and chair of the Stark County Public Defender Commission after 22 years. He has held numerous state and local bar association offices and is a life member in the state bar association. Ron chaired the Malone College annual fund campaign in 1994 and has served on many committees and offices for the United Way of Central Stark County. He uses his extra time to practice law with Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths and Dougherty.

Events to note: The Second '54 Foreign Cruise is being finalized. It probably will sail on the two-masted, 50-passenger Pantheon (with power) late in September 2004, from Venice down the Dalmation Coast. Contact Don Berlin or John Fenn if interested.
