It is time for our annual football predictions. As I see it, we should have a competitive football team this season after five years of bad seasons where we averaged two victories and eight defeats a year. But there is a big "if." "If" we find a good quarterback, and I think we will, it appears to be between Dan Shula, son of our All-Ivy wide receiver, Dave Shula, and Scott Willie, a third-team University of Wisconsin quarterback who transferred to Dartmouth last year. We lost six games by a total of 25 pointsan average of four points a game—last year. In almost every loss we beat ourselves mainly because of penalties—offside, interference and personal fouls. This year we hope we will have back Jensen, a talented lineman; Risha, a good running back; and Bob Murphy, a fine receiver, all of whom were unable to play last year. I'm an optimist—maybe we will have a very good season.
Congratulations to our prexy, Em Day, for celebrating his 90th birthday and on receiving the Strang Cancer Prevention Award. Dr. John Lyle, our classmate, reports that the Kelleys at Kendal in Hanover, the Wattses in Vero Beach, Florida, and Betty Bishop, who has been traveling but corresponds from her base in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, are in reasonably good health and are aging gracefully.
Sadly we report the deaths of Bob Offenbach, Ray Snow and Al Seitner. We extend our sympathy to their families.
