Congratulations to Robert Parrott and Elisabeth Smith Parrott '95! The two recently celebrated a wonderful new addition to their family. Emma Elisabeth Anne was born last November 21. Elisabeth notes that Emmas big sister, Hannah, now 31/2 years old, always has a smile and a lullaby for her baby sister. The happy family currently live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Rob just finished his third year as a graduate student in theoretical physics at Harvard. Elisabeth is also on the Harvard campus, working as a research officer with the committee on the use of human subjects.
Seems like Soraya (O'Brien) Jollon is very busy these days. Soraya is currently living in New York City with her husband, Alfredo Jollon, Columbia '94, and running her own wedding and private event planning business. Soraya writes: 'After my obligatory stint in consulting and then a few years of toiling away as an event planner for other people, I decided to strike out on my own. While I am based in the city, I do events around the country and also overseas." Overseas weddings included her very own last July. Soraya and Alfredo got married in Carmona, a small town just outside of Sevilla, Spain. Soraya and Alfredo gathered friends and family for a three-day celebration that included the following Dartmouth friends: bridesmaid Amy Harman and Ryan Burkart '99, Wendi (Potter) McKenna and husband Neil, Amy (Coughlin) Jones and husband Erik and Gabe Schlumberger. Heidi (Cleveland) Teepie and husband Rod could not make it because they were expecting their first child, Soren Christopher, who arrived safe and sound a couple of months later.
There was a recent Dartmouth reunion of sorts in Huntsvill, Alabama, as classmates gathered together for Burns McKinney's wedding this past May 31. Bums married Barbara Boston, Duke '98, in Barb's hometown. Dartmouth '96s attending Jim Rich (groomsman), Angelos Dassios (groomsman), Caleb Moore (groomsman), Matt McGill, Jesse Israel, Will Uppington, Lauren (Currie) Uppington, Andrew Webb, Doug Grossberg, Joelle Lewis Rogin, Lisa Studness, Tomoko Nakamura, John Barrett, Rick Kim, Christina Courey and Wendy (Witten) Tannenbaum. Burns also recently graduated from Wharton Business School and the couple plan to move to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Barb is finishing her second year at Harvard Business School.
Justin Ruben just finished a masters program at Yale where he studied and documented the worldwide effects of globalization. He recently returned from Quito, Ecuador, where he joined thousands protesting at the seventh annual ministerial meeting of the FTAA (please see article at www.inthesetimes.com/issue/27/oi/news2.shtml). Justin reports: "Hands down, it was one of the more incredible experiences of my life, but I never could have prepared for the events that would unfold upon my return to the United States. My new wife, Abigail, and I were married in a shotgun ceremony (we gave our vows with 12 gauges in hand) outside Fresno, California. We have a little one on the way and just purchased a small farm in northeastern Connecticut. Although it will lay fallow for the next few years to ensure its organic status, look out for a new line of organic baby food before the decade is out. All profits, of course, will support my continuing efforts to document and expose the effects of globalization."
Glad to hear that so many of our classmates are doing well. Keep the news coming in.
