The departure of longtime basketball coach Dave Faucher, who came to Dartmouth as an assistant in 1984 and who as head coach (1991-2004) racked up the third highest win total in College history (136), leaves Big Green basketball's future up in the air. Brian Austin, senior associate director of athletics, is chairing a fiveperson search committee that will appoint subcommittees to help with the interviewing of prospects before making recommendations to Athletic Director Josie Harper. Players expressed their appreciation of Faucher but are focused on the future: "We're looking forward to being involved in the hiring of our new coaching staff," says team captain Steve Callahan '05. "Although a time of transition, it's an exciting time for Dartmouth basketball."

A new online dating service called Cam-pus Cupid has attracted more than 300 students looking to meet and date. Launched in mid-February (think Valentine's Day) by Lisa Volpe '04 and Jessica Ward '04, "Cupid" has already matched 30 couples.

Not only is the College trying to expandnorthward with the construction of new dormitories in the Maynard Street area, it's looking at enlarging the Hopkins Center to better accommodate film studies and studio art students. Plans, being designed by the Boston-based firm Machado and Silvetti and Associates, have yet to be finalized. Among the firm's previous projects—in addition to many on college campuses—is the Getty Museum in Malibu, California.

Dartmouth's ethics debaters won theNortheast Regional Ethics Bowl at Williams College in February but could not go on to the national tournament in Cincinnati due to a lack of funding. Offers to pay for the $6,000 trip came too late. The team's winning position was that photojournalists have an obligation to save lives at risk if they are shooting situations in which they can help.

The College Bowl team won its regionalcompetition in Providence, Rhode Island, and will be competing in the national championships at Alabama's Auburn University Montgomery on April 23-25. The Northeast regional title was Dartmouth's first in 10 years.
