"People want to know whether climbing aloft is scary," says Julie Sleison '03, who recently spent six months working aboard a recreation of the historic tall ship, the Amistad. "It is the most terrifying thing I have ever done. You're standing on top of a pendulum getting whipped around." Sleison, here clambering up 90 feet to unfurl the topsail, served as a deckhand and educator as the ship sailed the Great Lakes and down the Atlantic coast of the United States.
