Busting Out at the Hood Museum
Artist and Mac Arthur Genius grant recipient Fred Wilson poses with the Hood Museum's busts of "race types" that were commissioned for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. For the concluding exhibit marking the museum's 20th anniversary, the Hood commissioned Wilson to create a new work using its objects. For Wilson every museum has a personality, and the Hood's collection "uniquely represents an American history that reflects events not only at Dartmouth, but also the Northeast in general." In addition to the rarely displayed busts, visitors to the show can expect to see more than a hundred depictions of Daniel Webster and pieces from the old Ripley's BelieveIt or Not Collection. Wilson's work, titled "So Much Trouble in the World—Believe It or Not!" is on display through December 11.
