Happily, the class of'40 enjoyed the highest participation index of all participating classes in last years Dartmouth College Fund. As Karl Prough so eloquently pointed out in his letter, the time has come to boost our class participation in the fund to new heights. Even a token gift will speak volumes about our class spirit in terms of participation.
The 65th reunion of our class (September 30-October 2) will be a wonderful opportunity to renew and review old ties with others who may have touched our lives (however fleetingly). Widows are urged to attend if possible. With class activities taking place at or near the Hanover Inn, there is no need to be concerned about getting around. We should all be in a lot better shape for this reunion than we will be for the 70th!
Although the obituaries of classmates appear in the Alumni Magazine, publication schedules often delay their appearance for several months. I have been listing the names of deceased classmates in each issue so that we may be more currently informed. Obituary information should be sent to co-class secretary Donna Pierce Faunce, 11 Overlook Drive, Canton, CT 06019-2022.
We regretfully report the passing of Joseph H.Rinehart on August 7;Arthur Root,M.D.,on September 7; and John Alden Baybutt on October 25.
