To continue from the last columns news from Line Eldredge: After a career in executive searching for others, Line started his own company, Brigham Hill, in 1997, doing executive searches for nonprofits. The name is from a small hill in Norwich, Vermont, where his dad, Ray' 42, bought 60 acres long ago as a family getaway spot (very humble beginnings of fixed up "shack," kerosene lamp, real icebox). The multigenerational Dartmouth family still heads that way frequently. Wife Susan got her masters in psychotherapy back in the 19905, after the kids headed off to school. Rebecca '94 is getting her own master's and Ph.D. in Cambridge, England; Emily, 29, is in New York City doing some singing and acting; and Ben, 27, is a screenwriter and works on an ecotourism ranch in Texas. Funny family story: Emily encouraged the whole family to rendezvous in Las Vegas for a Barry Manilow concert. But as the concert approached, Line was outfitted in tux and fluffy shirt and sunglasses, picked up by a limo and whisked to Graceland Chapel, where he did his best Elvis imitation as he and Susan renewed their vows. Parker Beverage was cover boy for the Colby alumni magazine recently, peering out from behind stacks of applications. Now finishing his 20th year as director of admissions, he reviews more than 4,000 applications a year, for a class of approximately 500 students, some of whom are Dartmouth sons and daughters: This coming June Caitlin (daughter of Joe) Grasso will be graduating. Ann Beverage is the city planner for the city of Waterville; due to budget cuts, she is it. Several years ago she worked for a bit with Skip Waterhouse, who was then working on some Waterville area development project. Daughter Clare, 2 5, is at the University of Southern Maine studying biology and Emily, 22, is at Dartmouth, class of 2005, majoring in film studies. There was a Wick Walker sighting: On the National Geographic Channel he was describing kayaking on the Tsangpo River Gorge in Tibet, a river with something like five times the "vertical drop" of any kayaking river in the United States. The show plugged a book of his: Courting the Diamond Sow. This may need some further editorial investiga- tion. From the holiday letter pile, I learned John Melski "became the center of too much attention after swallowing a yellow jacket in a can of pop" and that Clark Wadlow is personally supporting the language tape industry learning French, Greek and Spanish while commuting to Wash- ington, D.C., in order to wow the natives during trips to France and Greece and soon to Spain. Or maybe just to be able to order beer and be un- derstood. And, finally, when (notif!)you wish to make your donation to our class gift, the check should be made out to Dartmouth College and specific notation made for the "Class of 1968 Orientation Fund." Have a great winter, guys, and write soon.
