For MALS graduates who responded to the annual dues letter, thank you. The letter included a questionnaire on interest in educational programs and trips. Since many of you are receptive to the idea, we are working with the Dartmouth Alumni Continuing Education and Travel office to arrange a domestic program for this spring. You will be notified as soon as we have details. The letter brought sad news about Lawrence Bramford (MALS'84) of Loveland, Colorado. He died in February 2004. His obituary states that Larry was a designer, artist, professor, author, outdoorsman, husband and father. Recently discovering the summits of the Rockies from the perspective that only a mountain bike can provide, Larry also possessed unbridled enthusiasm for education, especially the discussion of design, architecture and aesthetics with his students.
Eric J. Esau (MALS'83) has returned to Hanover and to Dartmouth. Eric retired from his 30-year career in the University of Massachusetts Amherst libraries in December 2003. He writes: "Five days later I joined the staff of Rauner Special Collections Library here at Dartmouth. It's great to be back at Dartmouth and living in Hanover."
Seth Podolsky (ECS'98) will receive his medical degree from the University of Vermont in May. He intends to continue his studies with a residency in emergency medicine. During his last year of medical school, Seth worked in the United States and also abroad. He writes: "Throughout my training and travels, I found the teachings at the Center of the Evaluative Sciences to be true—'Geography is destiny!'" Seth was fortunate to see many ECS alums as he traveled. He visited with Inger Saxe (ECS'99), Aimee Ogden Hersh (ECS'01) and Adam Hersh (ECS'01) in California; Susan Benson (ECS'94) and Celine Kunn (ECS'99) in Maine; John Stys (ECS'98) in Chicago; and many friendly faces around Dartmouth and the Upper Valley. He was especially happy to spend time with Donny Liposky (ECS'99), who was recently appointed assistant professor in the department of surgery at Dartmouth Medical School. Donny and his wife, Kim, are the parents of a new baby,Tavyn James, and Ron Donelson (ECS'99) is the proud grandfather.
In May 2003 Kofi A. Cash (ECS'01) was recruited by the Sutter Health Corporate Office in Sacramento, California. Sutter Health is a major health care provider system, consisting of 35 acute-care hospitals in Northern California. Kofi's new role, senior clinical analyst for cardiovascular services, will require him to create performance improvement reports in the following categories: acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, percutaneous coronary intervention and open heart surgery. Additional responsibilities will include assisting executive leadership in the areas of quality improvement and strategic planning, as ap- plied to the cardiovascular service line. Kofi writes that once again the multifaceted role will allow him to apply the many principles he learned in his studies at Dartmouth. In September 2004 Kofi was named to the Manchester Who's Who Among Executives and Professionals in Healthcare and his biography will be listed in the 2004-2005 honors edition of the registry.
