The Arts and Sciences Graduate Alumni Association of Dartmouth (ASGAAD) and the MALS Alumni Council sponsored their annual Celebration of Poetry on February 12, during Winter Carnival Weekend. The reading, open to all poets and poetry lovers, was held in the Wren Room. Nancy Silliman'95 (MALS'96) opened the well-attended event with two of her poems inspired by the recent tsunami. Gayle Giovanna (biology'90) presented a work of performance art by playing a flute solo to set the atmosphere for her poems on love and winter. Judy Chypre (MALS'99), who helped organize the celebration, and Frank Anthony (MALS'84) were included among the readers. Frank closed the reading and the group adjourned for tea and conversation. Also enjoying the afternoon were alumni Maggie Montgomery (MALS'99) and Agnes Anna Zephyr (MALS'04). Those of us who heard Agnes' thesis presentation last year are hoping to persuade her to read at our next program. We are planning to hold a summer reading in Hanover at Wheelock Terrace. If you would like more information on this, please give me a call.
