Dartmouth is one of just 81 institutions profiled in Princeton's newguide, Colleges With A Conscience. The College is cited for providing "a solid education in battling the complacency demons, thanks to an impressive civic-engagement program."

David H. Russ is the College's new chiefinvestment officer. He succeeded Jon King effective August 1. Formerly treasurer of the regents and vice president for investments for the University of California system, Russ will manage the investment strategy for Dartmouth's endowment.

Sam Hopkins is the new assistant director of athletics for marketing and promotions. He comes to Dartmouth from Brown.

Thousands of reuning alums and familymembers participated in the first-ever"Field of Dreams" staged at Leveronefield during reunion weekend. Featuring old-fashioned games, arts and crafts, extreme sports competition, a live band and barbecue, the event drew members of the classes of 1975, 1980, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 2000. A professional networking session and class panels were also open across classes and succeeded in attracting mixed participation. A total of 3,984 alums reuned, organized by 217 volunteers. The class of 1980 established a 25th reunion attendance record with 367 members returning to campus and the class of 2000 set a high attendance mark for its fifth reunion with 453 class members.

The Dartmouth College Fund raised$27.95 million from more than 24,100alumni (47.4 percent), family and friends. The 25th reunion class of 1980, with 59.1 percent of members giving to the College, led all classes with a total of $5 million; the class of 1940 established a 65th reunion record of $440,850. The class of 1955 donated more than $1 million —and gave more than $12 million to the Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience. Also of note, 56 percent of the class of 2005 made gifts before graduating, which is a significant increase over the 13 percent posted by the class of 2004. Senior giving raised $15,000 for financial aid.
