Just days from this columns deadline another fall mini-reunion was concluded on a winning note. Yes, the Big Green can still beat Columbia on the gridiron. Classmates Allen, Batchelder, Beasley, Boynton, Broido, Brout, Caldwell, Choukas, Clayton, Culberson, Hopkins, Hustek, Langworthy, Leffler, Martin, McDonald, McKee, Miller, Dotti Mori, Nachman, Price, Rausen, Roberts, Russell, Peggy Read, Sanders, Saxton, Sickler, Smallwood, Don Smith, Spound, Sutton, Tolley, Weisenfeld, Welch and guests added up to 63, a great turnout. We savored the traditional Homecoming, complete with Friday nights parade, speeches and bonfire. All that was preceded by refreshments and a light supper in Brace Commons. Saturday morning at 8 an executive committee meeting was brought to order by class president Henry Nachman. Most of the nearly two-hour meeting was spent on the 55th reunion planning and the concurrent fund-raising. This effort will be led by Herb Knight and class agent Jim Culberson. A letterto you in November outlined chairman Loye Millers reunion plans this June 12-15. As briefly as possible here is 1951's way of participating in the capital gifts drive, our reunion class gift and an athletics sponsors program: At our 55 th reunion the class will present two checks to the College. The first check will be for current use, the Dartmouth College Fund. The second check will include DCF monies as well as gifts given to any entity of Dartmouth, i.e., friends' organizations, athletics sponsors program, etc. This will also include any monies given to the current capital campaign, both realized and pledged. Al Brout, class Webmaster, asked for new ways to utilize our Web page. One suggestion was longer obituaries, when available, to be posted. The Web site is www.alum.dartmouth.org/classes/51. Later in the morning the mini-reunion moved to the Zimmerman Arena parking lot for food and libations preceding a noon kickoff. After the glorious 17-6 victory, classmates and guests dressed up for a class banquet in the DOC house. The date for our fall mini-reunion has finally been resolved. We will be enjoying Homecoming Weekend on October 13-14 with Holy Cross as the football opponent and desirable venue locations for our meals. Sitting with Lois and Bing Broido in Lou's Restaurant Friday morning of the minireunion I learned that they were in town for another reason: to be honored by the Hood Museum for their donation of a 1948 portrait of Lois' mother by Mexican artist, Rufino Tamayo.
Instead of a wedding 50 years ago, we have a classmate remarrying in the grandest style imaginable. Appearing prominently in The New York Times Sunday Styles section was our own Al Moses marching down the aisle with Fern Schad. The date was August 2 8 and the place was her garden overlooking Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton, Long Island.
